Had a great time last week, on tour with Sharon King, a Scottish singer songwriter. Joined by Rowan Rheingans (Lady Maisery, Rheingans Sisters), on banjo, fiddle and myself on bass for this one-off tour, the set really came to life. We got to see lots of the highlands, including North Uist, Benbecula, Applecross, Knoydart and some other far flung, beautiful places! It was hot and sunny, and involved adventures with basses on small boats, breakfast on the beach, odd B&Bs and the like. All very pleasant!
But it’s back home and straight back ‘to it’, with preparations for an album recording this weekend, with none other than the hugely talented Rory Butler. Since winning the Celtic Connections Danny Kyle award in 2012, Rory’s been making a name for himself across the UK, and this will be the first acoustic album recording we’ve done together. Rory’s writing is exceptional – he’s a bit of a lyrical genius – and his playing is often likened to a young John Martyn… fair praise!
Here’s a bit of Rory mucking about in the house…
