A few years ago, whilst on tour, I heard Billy Liar for the first time. Acoustic punk troubadour, wise and entertaining story teller and writer of wrongs… I was captivated: his voice, raw and real, unlike anything I’d heard before, somehow unsettling and comforting at the same time, his lyrics had me hanging on for the next line. So I was really happy to be asked to play bass on his new single ‘All I’ve Got’, which will be released in September. This week we did a video shoot for it, which involved dressing up in a cocktail dress (me, not Billy), miming bass lines and watching Billy stage dive backwards onto a gaggle of adoring girls. Beats working in an office!
Watch out for Billy. His music is pretty far from the mainstream, but what he has to say is well worth hearing!
“Edinburgh-based Billy Liar’s sound draws from a wide range of influences, extending far beyond modern punk or the ’77 sound. He fuses the traditional balladry of his native Scotland to punk urgency to create undeniably energetic music that’s worth a second listen once you pick up the lyric sheet”
